On this episode, I talk with Serbian filmmakers, Ivanand Monja Jovic, about their first feature film, THE HEALING.
The film tells the story of a monk who entreats to an abandoned hermitage in the Serbian wildness. As he begins to settle in, elsewhere, a Muslim grandfather and his grandson are making their way to see him. What unfolds is the exploration of a difficult chapter in recent history and what we must do to overcome heartache from the past.
Ivan directed and Monja wrote the screenplay. They discuss the importance of their Faith and its influence on the filmmaking process, as well as their choice to employ the talents of renowned Byzantine Chanter, Nektaria Karantzi. THE HEALING is yet another example of fine Orthodox filmmaking coming out of Russia and the Balkans.
