The “Eikona” chanting group is releasing their tenth album this month entitled, “Abundant Mercy; The Polyeleos.” The three singing sisters have been making recordings of liturgical chant and contemporary Christian songs for over twenty years. They were among the first to begin making liturgical recordings in English in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Their most recent album is highlighted by a collection of hymns called ‘The Polyeleos,’ chanted during Orthros on Sundays, Feast Days and Vigils and touted as among the most beautiful musical compositions chanted during Greek Orthodox Church services.
“We are so thrilled about this recording,” says Presvytera Stacey Dorrance, choir director and head chanter of her parish in Portland, OR, and one of the three members of the singing trio. “Orthros is such an under attended service in our church, yet so overflowing with the teachings and poetic hymnography of our faith.” Also included in the album are other beloved hymns from Vespers and Orthros, chanted in Greek and English. “We hope this new recording will be a wonderful listening CD for the faithful worldwide,” says Chrysanthy Therianos, the youngest of the three sisters who is the assistant choir director to her father, Dr. Jim Maniatis, of the Denver Assumption Cathedral.
