Nectaria and Sean Tallent are the proud owners of Royal Hats, an online boutique specialising in custom and ready-made designer headwear.
Nectaria developed her passion in fashion accessories during her early retail years and customised her first hat for a customer in 2006. Nectaria then further advanced her interest by completing a course in hat-styling and outfitting, however, always saw her creations as just a side hobby. Nectaria pursued a career in merchandise planning, and creatively experimented with millinery components and designs whilst working for a large craft and textiles department chain.
Over the years, friends and family became familiar with her extensive collection of unique headpieces and would call on her creative abilities and styling advice during Spring Racing season. However, it wasn’t until she saw a magazine tabloid of Kate Middleton wearing a headpiece with a striking resemblance to a design she had made a few years earlier, that she realised her pieces were on trend, timelessand sought after.
Sean’s background was in website design and he recognised a potential in online trading. He designed a logo, photographed the products and developed a website; and from there Royal Hats was born.
Race-goers can shop confidently at Royal Hatsknowing that Sean and Nectaria take pride in providing quality millinery fashion accessories, ensuring customers feel unique, elegant and sophisticated at their events. Among a number of Australian owned brands available for purchase, Royal Hats also designs exquisite individual pieces under the brand Pièce de Résistance as a one-off exclusive hat or fascinator, designed and hand-pieced in-house.
As Orthodox Christians, Sean and Nectaria find that the online retail presence allows them to devote time to attending Church on Sundays instead of attending craft markets, and they also use their free time to be involved in the wider Orthodox youth community. As a young family, they cherish the support and sincerity received from the friends they have made through the Orthodox churches they attend as well as their family and friends who have seen their entrepreneurship develop into a means to support their family.
